I've been reviewing books and albums on All Over 2a - should I be the supreme source on these works? Of course not, but it's fun taking a look at them.
Books:
Invisible Cities - an interesting book by Italo Calvino, which is more creative than you could guess.
Norwegian Wood - Murakami's writing is brilliant, though at times weaker than I'd have hoped for.
The Road - the writing's as fragmented as the world it's portraying - the best I've read this year.
The Satsuma Complex - at times fun, but unfortunately doesn't know what it wants to be.
Three books - a lockdowned town, a seaside gang, and women facing war. All are great reads.
A Clockwork Orange - fun if not a bit unsettling.
Alias Grace - a lovely piece on a historical murder.
Albums/Singles:
The Ballad of Darren - wonderful at times, as Blur say yes to more strings and introspective ballads.
Spirit of Eden - I appreciate this groundbreaking album, of which there are too few words to praise it.
Dazzle Ships - OMD become experimental, creating a Cold War-affected album.
Third - bleak and beautiful at the same time - a startling album by Portishead.
Reviewing New Order - my attempt at reviewing all ten albums
Movement - both like and unlike New Order, as they shift away from Joy Division.
Power, Corruption and Lies - New Order's second (and best) album.
Blue Monday - a New Order single released after Power.
Low-life - extremely catchy and moody.
Brotherhood - the full on switch to dance truly starts here.
Technique - rather lovely house-esque record.
Republic - a bit disorderly, but with some highlights.
Get Ready - a full on switch to rock.
I Like...
I appreciate Joy Division, their music and lyrics here.
Much the same for The Chameleons, over here.
I'm always looking for recommendations - I might consider them!
