Uniblog 4: Coming in Early

Here are some things I realised when I came to lectures early today. In fact, I was so early, the lecture hall was closed when I arrived:

  • There's a calming stillness which comes with leaving early. Bonus points if you're out in the dark, as I was. Just the feeling of not being around the commotion of people that you regularly expect can be freeing once in a while. It's just you, the night sky, and your thoughts.
  • It's not really beneficial to come to lectures early. I mean, you're probably wondering why I'd even bother. Truth be told, today was results day for me, so I wanted to feel as calm as possible, since results days usually put me in a spot of panic. It didn't really work this time, but it was certainly helpful at the beginning.
  • Coffee is bloody expensive. I mean, sure, I was at a railway station, it's always going to cost something. But £3.90 for a small latte, come on.
  • Coffee helps make me more nervous sometimes. I mean, I should be very aware how caffeine can make you jittery, its main purpose is to keep you awake. But maybe I'll stick to tea from now on.
  • You can be aware you'll get there early, still take the slower train, and still be obscenely early. It's actually impressive how I managed to arrive before they opened the gates. Talking to a security guard, I realised that yes, I came twenty minutes before opening.
As for results day, yes I passed all the exams. Which I'm glad about because you might remember in the last uniblog, I mentioned worrying I'd fail one of them. But luckily that didn't happen. Were the results the best? No. But on the whole, better to scrape by than to be capped at a D come the summer. Which wouldn't be the case for me anyways.

In conclusion, sleep in :D
