New Year's resolutions

I'm not really a New Year's resolution person. For one, none of my resolutions are the typical "go to the gym" or "stop drinking" types - mainly because for most of my life, they've never applied to me. But the main two reasons are:

  • Even if I set a resolution, it's remarkably difficult to keep it going without a bump in the road;
  • I'm naturally quite spontaneous, and making a schedule or sticking to a routine annoys me.

But there are some ways in which I do think I could make this year better. In fact, I'm making this post to have a public record of what I want to achieve - maybe the external pressure will help with that.

  • Start reading more. I barely read last year, and I need to make things right. In the same vein, get back to writing book reviews here.
  • Reduce screen time to a more manageable number. Not sure what that would be, but if it's the kind that would make current me think "that's barely anything", I reckon I've succeeded.
  • Visit more places outside London for the blog. I don't mean your Redhills or your Eshers - I mean more exciting trips around England to various different towns or hills. Both to get me out of my comfort zone, but also for the fresh air.
  • Get back to cycling - it's been too long, but even with uni, I have more free time than ever; surely I can make it happen.
  • Listen to more interesting music. By which I mean music from outside what I already know - more new music, and also more music from Africa and Asia (both of which were absent from my last.fm wrapped).
  • Do well in exams. Not sure how well, but well enough. Uni has definitely lowered my standards.
  • Maybe get started with some art. Definitely try and attend the knitting society more often. Maybe even try the botanic society.

I am aware I am a day late to setting these, but in my defence I was out all day yesterday. And it was a nice start to the year as well, and you will be getting a blogpost soon enough.
